Planning Your Guest List

January 17, 2008

If you already have a space picked out where you’ll have your wedding and your reception, you’ll need to build your list based on the occupancy available in both locations. If you’ve got a big list of people but your church is small, think about possibly inviting some guests to just the reception. The smart thing to do is to plan out your guest list before picking a space to avoid any of these mishaps.

Another thing to think about is the budget. If you’ll be having a dinner, you’ll need to be sure that you can cover each guest. A friend of mine avoided this by offering appetizers while the guests waited on the Bride and Groom (they were taking pictures) then once they arrived, opened a buffet of mostly finger foods. She met the minimum food amount for the venue and served a ’semi-meal’ at the same time… but to the guests, it was good food!

One more thing is don’t forget to include your parents in the process of inviting guests. Especially if they’re footing the bill. Split the amount you can have into thirds, one third goes to the Bride to invite whom she wishes, one third to the Groom for all his chums, and one third to the parents. (Split that number in half and give each side of the family an exact number of people they can invite). Also, be sure to take into consideration if you’re going to allow “plus one’s”.

The guest list should be done as soon as possible to be able to give a head count to the caterer and to the cake maker. If you’re going to send out RSVP cards, be sure you do so in plenty of time to get them back before these final head counts are due.

At-Home Face Mask

January 15, 2008

So you’re getting ready for your big day, what a better way to calm yourself than an at-home facial! This can be done in the comfort of your own home and with products you’ll find right in your kitchen!

You’ll need:

1/2 Avocado, mashed
3-4 tablespoons mayonnaise
1-2 teaspoons lemon juice.

Facial & Lip Care

Now, take your avocado half and mash it up in a bowl. Add in the mayonnaise and stir until you get a smooth consistency. Add in the Lemon and mix again. Then spread evenly on clean, damp face and leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Tone and moisturize as usual. Then take the remaining mask and spread on two slices of bread. Add cucumbers, onions, tomato, cheese and any meat and you’ve got yourself a delicious after-facial snack!

Appetizers

December 2, 2007

Well the holidays are upon us. Christmas music is now on select radio stations playing 24/7, your lists of things to do has just gotten bigger and now you’re wondering, “How can I get all of this done?” As many of you already know, planning a wedding can be very stressful and then on top of that now you have the holidays to shop and plan for. As difficult as it may seem, it doesn’t have to be this way. With a little organization and delegation on your part, you can make things happen according to plan.

If you’re not already using a planner, get one or use the one on your email account. Many programs like gmail, yahoo, ical from mac and outlook express have daily calendars that you can load with all of your activities and even have them forwarded to your phone. This will make things much easier so you can view everything at a glance and know when to make or not make appointments.

Start on To Do Lists. Maybe you can’t get to everything in one day, but at least you have it written down and you can mark as you go. Whatever you have not completed, put it on the next day’s list until it eventually gets checked off.( I love to check off things on my list, it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something!) Don’t forget to pass on things to your partner from your lists too. Remember you don’t have to do it all, maybe you don’t trust them to get something done, just give them small tasks to build up their confidence and then move to larger tasks as the days and weeks go by.

Planning activities and shopping for food, especially for parties or potluck dinners can be challenging if you don’t do a lot of cooking. One of our favorite new websites to shop for appetizers is appetizerstogo.com. I know, sounds crazy to order food and have it shipped. But they have such delicious appetizers and its so easy. With over 150 hors d’oeuvres to choose from, you are certain to find the right appetizer for every occasion. Great for any party: Weddings, Cocktail, Birthday, Kid’s Birthday, Anniversary, Engagement, New Year’s Eve, Halloween, Holiday, Superbowl, and other special events. They also make a unique holiday gift, hostess gift, or corporate gift. And just think when you bring them to your next party, just tell everyone you made them, it’ll be our little secret!

Here’s an example of what you can get, mmmmmmmmm
